Bird's-eye view of São João da Madeira

This map shows a hybridism of observational drawing and cartographic code. It is inspired by the old Portulan charts, in which the rose of the winds marks the location of the navigator / observer towards the landscape. The observer in the center of the map is framed by a 360 degree panorama of the city landscape, offering a direct relationship between the map and the surrounding landscape, stimulating the sense of place. Reading upside down, breaking the convention of North in the top, allows to better know the world.

Optics and Chromatics

The title Optics and Chromatic refers to the debate between Goethe and Newton on the nature of colors. This debate is represented by the clash of the two letter-form compositions: one is calculated, geometric, with sharp contours, the other relies on the impressionistic play of colorful shadows. In 2014 this design served as the cover for Pantone Plus Series Artist Covers.

Harmony Without Disputes

"Protecting the Spiritual Environmental" was the core philosophy brought up by Ven. Master Sheng Yen, the founder of Dharma Drum Mountain, in 1992. The concept is aimed to enhance the quality of humans, so humans are able to face reality and solve problems with healthy mentalities. The design element for the expression of visual design is focused on how lotus flowers and roots "grow out of mud yet remain pure and untainted", and based on this element, the imagery of spiritual purification is created.

This is an interesting Christmas card that interacts with the receiver. The concept is quite unique with the ability to deliver different Christmas messages using the puzzle technique. The colors and minimalistic design is a good approach letting the receiver to focus on the mechanism of the card design.

Taikin

Taikin is a high-end Asian restaurant in the city of Doral, FL. The visual identity was developed through illustrations and graphic elements. The name of the restaurant is the Japanese word for “good fortune” and it’s also related to the Tanuki; an emblematic character on the Japanese mythology who represents prosperity and wealth. Based on that synergy, the concept brings to life the significance of both elements and creates the graphic story that represents it.
