(Excerpt) Interview with S Cube Design Lab : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. S Cube Design Lab : The main principle of our design is “making users own donation box” by using our product, Puncheart, a new concept of punching tool for making coin hole. The idea is people can make their own coin box by themselves with used empty bottles, and donate the saving money to the third world’s people. We got inspiration from user’s behavior that they just pass by donation box, though most of markets have a donation box. To induce people to participate in donation, we created this product. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. S Cube Design Lab : We focused on encouraging people to donate more actively by making personalized donation box. Particularly, we wanted everyone involved in donation system (such as donators, organization and third world people) to participate in delightedly and interact each other with warm heart. Through using this product, it is possible for people to experience indeed donation, or it can be used as individual coin box and they can protect environment as re-using empty bottles. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. S Cube Design Lab : We expect this design to be produced for real so that everyone can use it and practice donation. In order to do that, we are planning to contact to donation organization such as UNICEF or Save the children and introduce our idea and product. Then, we will find manufacturing company to produce it. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. S Cube Design Lab : Designing whole process took one month. It includes research, finding problems, idea generation, choosing final concept, developing concept, modeling and rendering. We can finish design through division of work depending everyone’s specializing part. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. S Cube Design Lab : The reason why we designed this concept is encouraging people to make people volunteer to donate by making and designing their own coin bank and then depositing their own money. Through those activities, it is possible for donators to find more meaningful experiences and value in their donations, which means providing a more emotional donation experience. .Frank Scott: Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?. S Cube Design Lab : This product has not produced yet, but we try to contact Unicef or Save the children to produce it for real. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. S Cube Design Lab : There are many donation box around us but those are almost same and have no feature at all. That is why people rarely have interest about donation, we thought. To make people have interest on donation, we thought about personalized donation box by making and design by themselves. .Frank Scott: Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?. S Cube Design Lab : We referred to products of Fiskars, a global brand bringing tools that empower people in the garden, home, office, and classroom, for understanding of the structure of punch. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. S Cube Design Lab : The main user is everyone around us who can be a donator. Through this product, people can make their own donation box and design donation plan like where they will donate and who can they help. Moreover, we designed considering all members in donation system; Donator, donation organization and beneficiary in the third world. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. However, using Puncheart can convey the meaning of sharing life between the donator and beneficiary in that they donate what they have used and collected for the beneficiary. .Frank Scott: How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?.
